Methodology Signals

Project management methodology matters — not as dogma, but as a signal that you have a structured, repeatable approach. Include relevant methodologies:

• PRINCE2 / MSP (common in UK, particularly public sector)
• Agile / Scrum / SAFe (tech and product environments)
• PMP (widely recognised globally)
• ITIL (IT service management contexts)

Use the specific methodology language that matches the job description. A public sector employer advertising a PRINCE2 role wants to see PRINCE2 named explicitly.

Stakeholder Management

Project management is as much about people as about process. The cover letter is a good place to briefly address your approach to stakeholder management — which is often the differentiator between PM candidates who have similar qualifications and experience.

"I have a strong track record of managing complex stakeholder landscapes, including senior executive sponsors, technical teams, and external vendors simultaneously" is more compelling than listing stakeholder management as a skill.

Scale and Complexity

Be explicit about the scale of projects you have managed:

• Project budget
• Timeline (months/years)
• Team size (direct and matrix)
• Number of workstreams
• Complexity factors (cross-functional, multi-geography, regulatory constraints)
